Playthings of Mad Gods

GLOG Class: Confidence Person

For Buckets of Blood by the magnificent Chloe
They say that there's a sucker born every 60 seconds. That's bullshit - there's a sucker born every second. That's cause we're all vulnerable - anyone can believe a lie, if it's sweet enough. As for you can't cheat an honest man - that's actually true. Good luck finding one in this hellhole. So, are you in?
~ Reportedly Said by John Crook to one of his victims

Confidence Person:

Set-Up: Most people who sell their souls to the devil do it for something material - you tried to sell it in order to be made the greatest con person in the world, but you used a fake signature by habit. You didn't know it, and neither did the devil until he checked it a while later, but you were already out. Now he's after you, to retake his boon and drag your soul to hell.
You are a master con person, in fact better than any other who came before you - at any time you can ask the GM 3 things about any NPC with whom you talked for at least a minute:

They are obliged to answer truthfully, unless the person's mind is protected by a supernatural effect that protects them from mind reading, in which case they get a save. You're just that good.

Honeyed Tongue: People just tend to like you - maybe it's your honest smile, or that you seem to agree with them and laugh at their jokes, or maybe it's just something about your face. Regardless, you get a +4 on all reaction rolls (if your GM uses those - if no, they have to remember that most people will like you and trust you). The bonus remains for as long as you are in the room - when you go out of it they might understand that you're not good, but when you return they'll like you again.

Get a way: You've mastered the art of getting away from angry people. If you are not actively watched, you can ask your GM for d4 ways out of any room you are in, regardless of how nonsensical that would be. Even if you are locked in a padded cell tied up with lethered straps and a straightjacket, as long as the person watching you looks away for even a moment, you can find a way to get out of all of it in seconds and walk out of the door that was previously closed. Or if you turn a corner into a dead end in a chase, you can get out of it the other way around. Sometimes this will take you into trouble - occasionally the shortcut you take is through hell, but that is only when all the other options are out.

Clean it up and use shoe paste: Preparation isn't everything, but it certaintly is useful. As long as you have 5 minutes with an item you can make it seem worth 5 times more with just polishing it and using some shoe paste or a similiar common household item. The faults will show the first time it is used, or after half a day, whichever comes sooner.

Fast-talk: You could say that the sky is green and people would believe you until they get outdoors. As long as a lie told by you does not contradict clearly visible facts people will believe it when told. They will snap out of it either when presented with evidence to the contrary, or d6 minutes after you told it, or they get into a situation where their life is in danger, whichever is sooner. Better get away by then.
