Playthings of Mad Gods

Freegale - a Yacht/Dungeon/Heist for the OSR!

A flowchart TTRPG map of a yacht

Introduction

A powerful wizard, Elron, was well known in the nearby lands as a cult leader and a knave, his cult "The Erasers of the Eternal Spirit" dreaded for its various exploits that have included the infiltration of various noble houses, high profile assasinations and spreading of heresy. This was all 10 years ago, before Elron was forced to flee and the Erasers have dissolved into infighting. Now, however, it is said that his ship has been noticed in the waters near to the Twin Cities of All-Trade, which led to the remains of the cult claiming, that Elron has ascended to a higher plane of existance, while the various looters are trying to attack the ship, in order to get his legendary wealth.

The Yacht

The yacht is around 100 meter long and around 33 meter wide. It has 5 decks (floors), with an engine below them. It is powered by the worship of the existing cults - now that they have splintered, however, both the Engine and the people inside have mutated. It is inhabited by ~40 crewmembers, who splintered into two tribes: The Awaiters (who await their lord's return) and The Followers (who intend to follow their lord into the Higher Realms) - they have an uneasy truce, after they have divided the yacht in half, with the port half being owned by The Awaiters, and the starboard owned by The Followers. The yacht is obviously luxurious and powered by magical means - it moves at speeds of ~75 km/h at random directions, although it avoids land. The two points of ingress are the Port Deck and the Starboard Deck. Both are covered in nets, that trail behind the yacht - neither tribe wants to leave it, but they are able to do so if convinced that it will help them follow their goals.

The Rooms Themselves

Port Deck

There are 10 Awaiters(1 HD, AC as Leather, Armed with Spears and daggers) in here at all time, manning the nets and gathering fish. They are trying to keep their Deck in good shape for the return of their Master, and are aggressive towards anyone who will make it dirty - thus, they put the fish straight into buckets, and gut them in there.

Games Room

A room covered in green cloth and brown wood, full of poker chips and sets of cards. It is seen as sacred by The Awaiters, who regularly (once a week, on thursday)gather in order to recreate the old games that their master had. There are 5 intricate sets of cards, each marked (worth 100 GP to a collector each). In the center of the room there is a magical safe, reinforced so that a spell like disintegration or similar is needed to destroy it. It is opened with the combination 1234, and contains:

Altar

An altar devoted to Elron, covered with pictures of him looted from around the ship and dead fish set as sacrifices. The Awaiters sometimes gather here, to ask their master to return.

Guest Dining Room

Ransacked a long time ago, this dining room was once opulent, but now not much remains. After searching for a turn one may find some intricate silverware(50 GP) among the rubble, as well as a skeleton.

Guest Quarters

Overtaken by the Followers(1 HD, AC as Leather, Armed with Spears and daggers), around 10 are here at any time, resting or praying. The once-white bedsheets and walls are now brown from blood and filth, and there are 4 children here who never left the ship. The Follower's leader, "Wife of Elron"(2 HD, unarmored, knows charm person and minor illusion) intends to follow her "beloved" - she denies the fact that she was just one of many women that Elron abused.

Starboard Deck

The Followers see the ship as just a tool towards their goal - thus, they have connected various nets to their part and gather more fish than the Awaiters. However, they do not care as much for it, and it is much dirtier. Around 10 Followers are present at all times, gutting fish and cleaning the nets.

Port Gunnery

Guarded by two Awaiters, it contains a magical scroll with Mass Disintegrate, a spell of mass destruction - they do not know what it does exactly, only that it requires the sacrifice of the caster who uses it. The effects are proportional to the power of the caster.

Crew Quarters

Simple bunk beds fill this room, which is kept clean by 10 Awaiters. They live here and sleep here, as well as have children (3). They are led by "The High Priest of Elron"(1 HD, unarmored, unarmed), an older man who was Elton's right hand. He does not actually believe that he will return, but uses that belief to control the others.

Kitchen

Mostly avoided by both tribes, it is filled with the stench of rotting food and corpses. The rotting foods inside have mutated due to the harmful energies, and may(2-in-6) attack anyone who enters. If they focus on someone, they will attack each turn as a 3 HD creature dealing the damage of a sword. They may not be killed with conventional means - only complete chemical destruction may clear this place of its plague.

Starboard Gunnery

Deserted and abandoned, this place housed the conventional weapons - both the tribes avoid it, as they do not want to risk going through the kitchen. Inside is unstable ordinance - if the party puts any fire inside, everyone in here and the surrounding rooms must save or die, as it blows up, leaving a gaping hole. If removed, however, an alchemist will be able to use it to create explosives worth 2000 GP.

Engine Room

All the entrances are barred by the tribes - they have barricaded them with whatever they could find and will attack anyone who wants to enter. Going inside is an awful idea. That being said: Inside there is a great magitech engine, powered by belief. It is an abomination of metal, flesh and divinity - it is powered by belief of both the people onboard and around the world, but would love to suppliment its diet with some flesh. It has 15 HD, AC as Plate-and-Shield and deals damage like a strike with a Warhammer. Luckily it may not fit through any doors, and will not escape its confinement in the Engine Room. For each minute one spent in the same room as it is, they must roll a save or gain a random mutation, as the foul energies escape from the beast. If destroyed, it yields enough magi-tech for a really unwise mage to build an empire. Anything created using it will mutate. Needless to say, it is worth as much gold as you can carry to anyone mad and powerful enough to use it.

Magical Laboratory

This place is filled with a chemical stench, and the floor is covered in broken glass and stains from what were once powerful magical ingredients. This place has been trashed by someone who wanted to destroy everything of worth in here - a few gems have survived, amongst the broken glass. If it is searched, one may find 7 gems of all colours of the rainbow, in the remains of a magical optical device - they are each worth 100 GP, or 1000 as a set. If the device is rebuilt, it is worth 1500 GP to an optical mage. Any wound taken in this place will cause rapid poisoning - so will staying here for longer than 5 minutes.

Owner's Private Quarters

Contains a luxurious table with a few chairs on the ground next to it(the furniture is worth ~50 GP if restored), a smashed bar (two bottles of wine are fine, one may also find traces of various psychoactive drugs in here). There were portraits of the owner in here, but they were long since taken to the altar.

The pool

(Sidenote - I never understood why the hell do people put pools on their yachts, after all you've got all this water around you and you can just float somewhere where the ocean is warm) The pool is covered with ceramic plates, all covered in psychedelic patterns. If taken out, they are worth ~5000 GP for an Archmage or a Lord who wants to show how rich they are. The water was long since replaced by a clear slime (as a large ooze, but transclucent) that will attack anyone who approaches it.

Sauna

A small booth full of warm steam, smells like fungus, as it was long overtaken by them. The stones in the middle are forever hot - even if thrown into a pot of liquid nitrogen. There is a water reservoir above it, powered by rain. This place will still be humid and warm even after another decade.

Owner's Opulent Bedroom

Silk bedsheets enchanted to never stain, a king-size bed, great windows. The view is incredible. A stench may be felt coming from the sun deck, througout the whole two highest decks. Captain may be seen wandering through here (1-in-3 chance that he's here)

Captain's Quarters

They were once almost as luxurious as Master's - now they are all destroyed, covered by a monster's filth, as well as blood and bones. Beneath them, jewellery may be found, worth 350 GP. A book may also be found, which if cleaned is an instruction manual for the Bridge. Captain may be seen wandering through here (1-in-3 chance that he's here - if that's the case, there's a 50% chance that he is sleeping).

Bridge

Full of strange buttons, levers and information panels, covered in claw-marks - understanding them requires 7 full days of study, or a day of reading the book in Captain's Quarters. If understood, they may be used to steer the ship, and bring it to a stop or move it in whatever direction chosen. Right now it is on auto-pilot - if turned off, it may crash into land. Captain may be seen wandering through here (1-in-3 chance that he's here - if that's the case, there's a 50% chance that he is focused on piloting the ship - he lost all of his abilities, just repeating what is left of his shambled mind).

The Captain

(Not a room) A gaunt yet muscular creature that was once a human. Its eyes are tiny slits through which light emerges. Its hands are claws. It is a predator that desires human meat, and is fiercly territorial. It will not leave the deck it is on, and does not actually need to eat. 8 HD, AC as Mail, Damage as Axes. Two actions per round.

Sun Deck

The stench of rot is unbearable - Master's corpse was left here to rot, inside of a Jaccuzzi. A bunch of syringes is left next to it. The body is in contrast to the beauty of the sun that comes to this room from the top which is made out of glass. After the engine started mutating he killed himself with the drugs that he has abused for a long time - somehow, one last secret remains inside of his brain, that remained intact through a weird flux of magic. The secret word that makes your commands irresistable.
