Playthings of Mad Gods

Bunch of simple (and slightly sinister) magical items for use in your games

A little thing to herald my return to writing this blog. Some ideas I've had for items that may be used in your adventures.

BLACKLIGHT

A candleholder out of black iron, in the shape of a demon face that holds the candle in its teeth. The light, warmth and the smell of the candle may only be felt by the person who is holding the handle. Don't drop it.

LOST ABACUS

An abacus made out of ivory, with the beads made out of onyx. Any correct calculation made with it will become incorrect, due to a single part of the counted set disappearing from the counter's sight (it may wander off, be taken away by a person or wind, or an even stranger occurence). Usage to dispose of enemies is unwise - their disappearance may stem from the fact, that they are hiding from you, preparing to strike.

CUCKOO'S NEST

A tangle of silken string, goat's sinew and human hair. Any creature whose egg hatches within will become posessed by a demon of GM's choice.

FINGERNAIL

A child's fingerbone, blackened by flames and sharpened by grief. If it is stabbed into the bed where a person last slept, they will suffer incapacitating pain in the area corresponding to where the FINGERNAIL is located, until it is removed or the person stabbed falls asleep. The latter part is quite hard due to the pain, and usually takes at least a few days.
